Review

This book documents the major quilt exhibition brought into being by quilt artists years ago in order to do justice to this art form. This time the pieces were selected by a jury consisting of the artists Liz Axford and Wendy Huhn as well as the author and curator Robert Shaw. They were looking for originality, design quality, technique and craftsmanship. Only one piece could be selected per artist. Of the 84 works that passed the jury and are shown here, 67 were made in the USA and 17 came from other countries (four from Australia, two each from Japan, UK and France, and one each from Korea, New Zealand, Canada, Israel, Germany and the Netherlands).
Any quilt artist wishing to know how to class their own work should get hold of the Quilt National catalogues. They illustrate the development of what is probably the most important art quilt exhibition.
The present book also contains an introductory text by the organiser, Hilary Morrow Fletcher, and a statement by the jury.
