Review

After her successful publication, "Dutch Felt - Vilt in Beeld", the author has now turned her attention to quilting. Her own work is inspired by historic Dutch quilts, which she illustrates on the first few pages. Then follows a discussion of the constituents of a quilt: layers of fabric, and the techniques for joining them. A number of practical examples illustrate the diversity of applications. The gallery section, which takes up the major part of the book, introduces work by 41 artists, including names as well known as Luis Acosta, Els van Baarle, Jette Clover, Leslie Gabrielse, Ella Koopman, Cherilyn Martin, Frans Megens, Dery Timmer, and Saskia Weishut-Snapper. The works displayed are mostly art pieces, with a scattering of clothing and interior objects.
A series of practical recipes, e.g. for felting silk, concludes this publication. The author has achieved her aim of taking a fresh look at quilt design.
