Fashion of the Century . Chronik der Mode von 1900 bis heute
ReviewThe author of this chronology of 20th century fashion is a professor at the Design College in Pforzheim, a fashion historian and author of numerous standard works on costume history and fashion theory. With this publication she has written a reference book of international designer fashion, with special emphasis on developments in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. She considers youth cult fashion trends, the correlation between fashion, politics and culture, and new developments in film, art, theatre and music. The structure of the book is purely chronological. It recalls historical events and provides a general classification of fashion trends, supplemented by striking characteristics from different countries around the world, with an emphasis on Europe. Men’s fashion is also considered in each case. The index at the back of the book helps cross-referencing with the chronological structure. As a handbook, this publication could well have included a few bibliographic references, recommending supplementary works for further study. |
